For April, we will have multiple newsletters in honor of Earth Day, which is observed on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Issue 23's feature story is by Robert Salthouse--SHDTC friend, master gardener, and associate chair of the South Hadley Sustainability and Energy Commission--has authored an essay about the multiple advantages of cultivating native plants for wildlife and our environment. Many thanks to Robert for kicking off SHDTC's "Earth Month" celebration. Additionally, following our last newsletter about the rise of right-wing ideology in the U.S., SHDTC friend Rudy Ternbach submitted a short piece about the phases of fascism, which appears in this edition.

Issue 24 offers a look at some of the ways in which Mount Holyoke College is providing leadership on climate change.

Earth Day Activities planned in South Hadley that day include a Bike/Walk Trek with Conservation Administrator Rebekah Cornell at Bynan Conservation Area, and a Redeemable Bottle and Can Drive from 9am to 1pm at South Hadley High School Parking Lot (rain date 4/23) to support ongoing improvements to Buttery Brook Park. Information about the Town's Growing Wild South Hadley initiative and resources about wild landscapes can be found on the town website at: https://www.southhadley.org/1345/Growing-Wild.
