Candlelight COVID Memorial in South Hadley

The Presidential Inaugural Committee has invited communities to join in a nationwide memorial on Tuesday to honor and remember the lives lost to COVID-19. A national moment of unity and remembrance will be marked around the country at 5:30pm by illumination and ringing church bells. A Washington, DC ceremony will feature lighting around the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool.

In South Hadley, community members are invited to be part of a 30-minute nonpartisan candlelight vigil on Tuesday, January 19 to remember those who have been lost:

    5:15 to 5:45pm (bells toll at 5:30pm)
    College St (Rt 116) from Center Church and Town Common
    Wear a mask, bring a candle, dress warmly, stand 6-8 feet apart

Participants are asked to line up 6-8 feet apart from 5:15pm to 5:45pm on both sides of College Street, starting at Center Church and the Common and south along Route 116. At 5:30pm the Center Church bell will ring 30 times to memorialize the 390,809 American lives lost (as of 1.15.21). Everyone is asked to wear a mask, bring a candle (no signs, please), and practice social distancing so all will be safe. The weather on Tuesday looks like it will be clear, but chilly.
