The
Presidential Inaugural Committee has invited communities to join in a
nationwide memorial on Tuesday to honor and remember the lives lost to
COVID-19. A national moment of unity and remembrance will be marked
around the country at 5:30pm by illumination and ringing church bells. A
Washington, DC ceremony will feature lighting around the Lincoln
Memorial reflecting pool.
In
South Hadley, community members are invited to be part of a 30-minute
nonpartisan candlelight vigil on Tuesday, January 19 to remember those
who have been lost:
Participants are asked to line up 6-8 feet apart from 5:15pm to 5:45pm on both sides of College Street, starting at Center Church and the Common and south along Route 116. At 5:30pm the Center Church bell will ring 30 times to memorialize the 390,809 American lives lost (as of 1.15.21). Everyone is asked to wear a mask, bring a candle (no signs, please), and practice social distancing so all will be safe. The weather on Tuesday looks like it will be clear, but chilly.
